Background:

After qualifiying as a doctor, Ms Rahman underwent specialist ophthalmology training in Oxford and the south west of England. She is a specialist in diseases of the retina and has completed a two year fellowship in Vitreo-retinal surgery at the Oxford Eye Hospital.

In Sept 2002, she was appointed as a consultant at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust. Since then she has set up a state of the art Vitreo-retinal service from scratch, providing cover to Halifax, Huddersfield and the surrounding areas. She is one of the handful of UK surgeons, who use state of the art 27G vitrectomy platform.

Since 2016, she has been performing 27G procedures in 95% of patients undergoing vitrectomy, adding to their postoperative comfort and quicker visual rehabilitation. She rigorously audits her surgical outcomes from the prospectively maintained Vitreo-retinal database.

Managerial and educational roles in the NHS:

She has served as lead clinician, audit lead and educational supervisor in the past. Currently she is Clinical lead for Ophthalmology representing HES (Hospital Eye Service) on Eye care network. This role requires collaboration with LOC and GP commissioners to ensure integrated working between primary, community and secondary care. Lead for Vitreo-retinal services in CHFT.

Since 2017, she has been one of the Final FRCS Examiner at The Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow. Reviewer of main stream Ophthalmology journals (Eye, Retina, Journal of Cataract & Refractive surgery).
